Tools & Resources

Everything linked here is something we’d actually use, have used, or is the clear category default for the business models covered on this site. No filler. If a category doesn’t have a clear recommendation, it’s not listed.

Domain & Hosting

Cloudflare — Free tier handles Domain Name System (DNS), content delivery network (CDN), and basic distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) protection for any site. Put every domain behind Cloudflare on day one. The performance and security benefit is immediate and costs nothing.

Hostinger — The right answer for new sites before they’re earning. Fast, affordable, and more than adequate for most anything you can imagine to start and scale.

Email & Newsletters

Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — Built for content creators and bloggers. The automation and tagging system is genuinely good once you learn it. Free up to 10,000 subscribers with basic features. The platform we’d choose for any content site monetizing through email.

Payments & Digital Products

Stripe — The default for any serious payment integration. Developer-friendly, reliable, and widely supported. If you’re building a SaaS product or productized service, start here.

Gumroad — Simplest way to sell a digital product. Handles delivery, value-added tax (VAT) compliance, and affiliates out of the box. Takes a percentage of revenue, but you’re live in under an hour with no technical setup.

SEO & Research

Google Search Console — Free and mandatory. Set this up the day you launch any site. It’s the only place you can see exactly which queries are generating impressions and clicks from Google. Nothing replaces it.

Rank Math — The WordPress SEO plugin. Free tier handles meta descriptions, schema markup, XML sitemaps, and focus keyword tracking. Better than Yoast for most use cases and cheaper at every tier. Install this on any WordPress site before you publish your first post.

Perplexity — Faster than Google for research tasks where you need synthesized answers quickly. Useful for competitive research, market sizing sanity checks, and understanding a new niche before you commit to writing about it.

AI & Automation

Claude — Our default for long-form writing tasks, research synthesis, and anything that requires following complex instructions. Better than ChatGPT for structured output and document analysis in our experience.

ChatGPT — The one your clients will already have. If you’re building an AI workflow retainer business, fluency with ChatGPT and custom GPT creation is table stakes.

Make (formerly Integromat) — Workflow automation that’s more powerful than Zapier and cheaper at scale. Connect your tools, automate repetitive tasks, and build the infrastructure for a productized service without writing code. The learning curve is worth it.

Zapier — Simpler than Make, more expensive per task, but the integrations library is larger and the setup time is shorter. Right choice if you need something running in an hour and you’re not planning to push it hard.

Finance & Legal Basics

Wave — Free accounting software that’s good enough for most solo operators and early-stage businesses. When you need more, move to QuickBooks, but Wave handles invoicing, expense tracking, and basic financial reporting without a monthly fee.
